In Living Like This, Daniel Meadows' important first book, this picture is reproduced twice, as the title image for the section on Yorkshire and again in this section where it is titled Goole Docks and accompanied by the following caption:
A docker: 'It's not much of a life, this, you know. Up at five a.m. to start work at six. Work right through the day till six pm. Get drunk, home to bed and start all over again. You only get time to watch television once a week - last time I turned it on I noticed the knob was rusty.'
