I’m a Fine Art graduate who is training to become a primary school teacher, and both of my parents are originally from Pakistan. As young South Asian women the idea of what we’re meant to be has changed. There isn’t such a traditional view as there was. As women now we’re able to make our own choices and explore what we want to do. On social media there are a lot more South Asian women who are owning their bodies, owning their own culture and becoming more prominent in the eyes of the media. This is really inspiring to see as South Asian women are increasingly paving the way to their own destiny and living unapologetically. As an artist I am more concerned about religion, because that’s where I feel the most conflicted within myself. Having been brought up in a predominantly Asian community, I have always felt comfortable with my Pakistani heritage. However, my faith has always been a completely different learning journey for me.
