In 1997 James recorded an interview with Anselm Kiefer at his incredible studio in Bajac in Southern France in connection with research for a complete catalogue of Kiefer's woodcuts.
A selection of James's photographs of the studio taken on this visit were subsequently published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Anselm Kiefer. Works on Paper, 1998.
