Loans of rare Keith Vaughan photographs to new exhibition

Pallant House Gallery, Sussex

We are pleased to be lending rare early photographs by Keith Vaughan to the new Pallant House Gallery exhibition.

The first major exhibition to celebrate Sussex as a place of inspiration for artists.

Sussex has a unique sense of place. Its distinctive chalk-cliff coastline and the rolling hills of the South Downs have inspired artists for centuries. From some of our greatest landscape artists like Constable and Turner to contemporary artists working in the area today, this exhibition lets you discover Sussex as a place of creativity, exploration, retreat and alternative lifestyles.

Whether it’s William Nicholson’s beautiful, sparse paintings of the Downs, Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell’s colour-drenched depictions of the pond at Charleston, or Lee Miller’s photographs of the farms around her house, this wide-ranging exhibition that encompasses print, sculpture, photography and digital works will show you Sussex as you have never seen it before .

Featuring over 100 works, including paintings, drawings, photography, and sculpture by over 50 artists, the exhibition will reassess the rich lives and work of artists connected with the Sussex landscape. The exhibition will provide a new history of British landscape art through the prism of this distinctive area, spanning from Constable and Turner to contemporary artists such as Tania Kovats and Wolfgang Tillmans.

To accompany the exhibition a new fullyillustrated catalogue will be published, written by curator of the exhibition Louise Weller and Simon Martin, Director of Pallant House Gallery. It will be distributed by the Yale Centre for British Art
