Kurt Hutton. Speaking Likeness

The Hyman Collection includes several of the vintage photographs (with exposure notes on the verso) that were reproduced in Kurt Hutton's book, Speaking Likeness, which was published by Focal Press in 1947. A companion volume, Bill Brandt. Camera in London, with the same design, was published the following year, 1948.

Siginificantly, Andor Kraszna-Krausz, the publisher and founder of Focal Press had like Hutton and Brandt been educated and began his career in Germany before emigrating to Britain, arriving in 1937 and setting up his publishing house a year later.
