The present photograph is a very close variant of the opening image of Brandt's important photo series 'The Perfect Parlourmaid', Picture Post, vol. 4, no. 4 (July 29, 1939), pp. 43-7.

The angle chosen is very slightly different and the atmosphere is darker formally and psychologically than the published image.
