Daniel Meadows and Martin Parr's important collaborative series, June Street, depicts the inhabitants of a typical Manchester Street. In order to take these photographs they put a letter through the front door of each house requesting the opportunity to photograph the residents. The Hyman Collection includes Daniel Meadows' original draft of this letter. In it Meadows writes:
Dear Householder,
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. We are social documentary photographers and our names are Martin Parr and Daniel Meadows and we are currently working in the Manchester/Salford area.
Before redevelopment changes the face of Salford we want to record for future generations the friendly atmosphere that is characteristic of your city. We have chosen your street in particular because of its picturesque qualities.
We would like to photograph your family at home and will be very pleased to give you copies of any of the pictures that we take. The success of this project relies on your cooperation and we will be calling on you during the evening in the next few days to talk about it and arange a date to photograph you at your (our) convenience.
