Brandt took several pictures in pubs during the 1930s and 1940s. The present example is a curious one. An apparently simple image is hard to decipher. The man's gaze suggests that he might be engaging with another person but the positioning of the glasses on the table suggest he is probably alone. He also appears to be drinking milk rather than beer.
