Photographer's "Bill Brandt" stamp on verso.

Brandt's photograph depicts the four members of the famous British comedy stage review Beyond the Fringe. From our left to right are Jonathan Miller, Alan Bennett, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. The review played in London's West End in 1961 and then from 1962 in America on New York's Broadway and on tour. Hugely successful, it is widely regarded as seminal to the rise of satirical comedy in 1960s Britain. Each of the four men would also develop hugey successful independent careers. Brandt's photograph shows these anti-establishment iconoclasts at the moment their fame took off.
