'The ornamental gates here are especially attractive, and I wanted to photograph them properly. My previous attempts to photograph the gardens, in April 1979, had not turned out very well. For these new ones having heard a promising weather forecast the night before, I took the earliest train possible to arrive when the park opened at seven o'clock in the morning. Paul Barkshire.
