'This part of the pub was built in 1430, though rebuilt with some of the original materials in 1923. Until recently the pub was called Henekey's Long Bar because it was one of the longest bars in Britain, but after it was shortened the name was changed. On the right, not shown in the picture, are booths built so lawyers and their clients can speak privately. The pub is next to the High Holborn gatehouse of Gray's Inn. Note the old large vats on the gallery and the three cornered fireplace that has a chimney under the floor.' Paul Barkshire.
