Welsh statesman David Lloyd George (1863 - 1945) who was British Prime Minister through the latter part of World War I and the early post war years (1916 - 1922).

This photograph appeared in Picture Post and in Speaking Likeness, where Hutton writes of its origins:

"Lloyd George's photograph was taken under the handicap of its being his eightieth birthday. The occasion, of course, gave me the appropriate pictures. Still, I wanted more and, so whole-heartedly did Lloyd George respond, that I was quickly reasured that for such a man birthday parties, even at eighty, were but a passing distraction from setting the world to rights." (p.22)
