"We spent some time photographing the seaside resort of Margate, Kent in preparation for exhibiting in Margate Rocks Contemporary Arts Festival. Traditionally popular with Londoners, the once thriving town and attractions such as Dreamland amusement park were showing signs of decline. People told us that Marks & Spencer's decision to relocate to an out of town shopping centre would have a devastating effect on the local economy resulting in more empty shops. The area around Dreamland looked quite desolate at the time of our visit although the colourful shutters and boarded up windows painted in cheerful fairground colours provided some light relief in an otherwise forlorn-looking shopping precinct."
