“As a photographer based in the UK, making work largely about Britain, a Centre for British Photography is personally a much needed and greatly appreciated prospect. There is no doubt in my mind that British Photography as a whole will benefit immensely from a specific centre of this kind.”
Paul Hart, November 2022.
TRUNCATED (2005-2008) is an intensive portrayal of an ageing pine forest plantation in Derbyshire, England. By exploring the natural spirituality of the place, which is largely unaffected by the modern world, the series identifies a landscape where nature finds shelter and protection from its own elemental chaos. TRUNCATED was published in 2009 by Dewi Lewis Publishing, with an essay by Gerry Badger, and is long out of print.
Guardian (2007) was made during the winter twilight hours on a large format film camera.
“Stepping into the forest can feel like a step into the unknown, the shadowy half-light deceiving the senses. This apparent sanctuary of stillness can inexplicably transform. Trees stand like sentinels, others are stolid in ranks, like an army appearing out of the darkness. This is why it’s so alluring - secretive, mysterious and precious”.
