The Hyman Collection is a major lender to the exhibition Here We Are. The exhibition celebrates the very best of British photography on the occasion of Burberry's September collection for men and women. When creating this collection Burberry's President and Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey drew inspiration from social portraiture in 20th century British photography - particularly by photographers who have set about documenting the many and varied tribes, clans and classes that make up this island of ours, and the humourous, spirited and eccentric way in which the British dress.
Bringing together the work of 20+ photographers in a thematic exhibition across 3 floors of Old Sessions House, the exhibition will explore themes that reflect different aspects of the British way of life, including 'military ceremony', 'romance and revelry' and 'coping with the weather', each of which have inspired Bailey's new designs. Within each thematic display, important bodies of work by individual photographers will be shown as discrete, monographic presentations.
The exhibition will be installed in the beautiful and majestic rooms of Old Sessions House, a Grade II listed 18th-century building.The exhibition will open to the public for the first time since this building's careful restoration, following the catwalk showcase of the September collection, which will take place in the same space on 16 September.
