The Caravan Gallery - Sense of Place

"One of our prime motivations is to document 'sense of place' and explore local, regional and national distinctiveness. Our travels have shown us that each place has multiple identities, some of which are obvious while others are often hidden from view. We are frequently commissioned to produce photo essays focusing on particular places. This usually involves a research visit where we thoroughly immerse ourselves in a locality; although we acknowledge well known landmarks we enjoy the concept of the dérive as means of exploration. People's relationship to place and the constantly changing landscape inspired us to create participatory Pride of Place Projects; part evolving exhibition, part alternative visitor information centre, these projects give people a platform to share their response to their surroundings."
